The NHL Lock-out has now reached December and there does not seem to be any end in sight. I can not understand how it has gone this far and why the sides are so far apart from each other. There have been talks going on in NYC this week and more and more players have been reporting to these meetings. Let us hope that a solution can be reached so that the season can begin around Christmas and the Winter Classic set for New Year's Day in Ann Arbor, Michigan between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs, can go on as scheduled.
God I miss the games!

The 1972 Summit Series
In 1972, the Soviet Union and Team Canada met for 8 games to be played in Canada and Moscow in some sort of an exhibition of hockey. It soon turned into a "war on ice" between the two countries.
This series took place 40 years ago this September and the Chicago Blackhawks made up a vital part of that Team Canada. Stan Makita played in Game 2. Goaltending legend Tony Esposito came off the bench to replace young Ken Dryden and won Game 2. Tony "O" also scored a tie and won Game 7 in Moscow, when Paul Henderson scored his second of 3 Game Winning goals in a row.
Dennis Hull also played for Team Canada, as did the Defensive pair of Bill White and Pat Stapleton. Both White and Stapleton made life rough for the Soviets once they got on the ice.
The 1972 Summit Series needed all of Team Canada to play well, and the Blackhawk contingent fared very well indeed.

The Summit Series at 40
This week marks the 40th anniversary of the famed Summit Series between the Soviet Hockey Team and Team Canada. What started out as an exhibition series, quickly turned into one of the fiercest ice battles ever.
After losing Game 1 to the Russians, Chicago Blackhawk goaltender, Tony Esposito was put between the pipes to replace Ken Dryden in Game 2. All Tony "O" did, was keep the Soviets from scoring and put Team Canada right back into it.
This September 28th, will be 40 years to the day that Toronto Maple Leave winger, Paul Henderson scored the most famous goal in the history of Canada, as he beat the great Tretiak on a rebound and won Game 8 for Team Canada; which won them the series: 4-3-1
Was it 40 years ago? It seemed just like yesterday.

Just Saying Hi
Hello everyone at Armchair Nation - Chicago Blawkhawks. My name is Tony Griffo and I have just joined Armchair Nation.
I have been a fan of the Blackhawks since Tony Esposito was in the nets. In fact, when I was in HS, I bought a Blackhawk jersey and added Tony's #35 on the back and the shoulders. I wore that jersey to play street hockey in New Jersey for about 5 years.
I will try to keep you updated on all things Blackhawks. I still say that the logo is the best in sports!!
If you have a chance, please come and check out my own sports blog: www.allsportstony.blogspot.com
I have a segment called "Tony's Take" that I think you will enjoy. Remember, you may agree or disagree, BUT you will never be bored.

Hossa opens up about dark days following concussion
By Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune
The darkest times for Marian Hossa were literally spent in the dark.
For three days the Blackhawks veteran did nothing but lay in bed in a sleepy daze, day turning to night and back into day. At one point, he mistakenly told doctors his wife, Jana, was there with him in his Chicago home instead of where she really was: in Slovakia, eagerly waiting for an opportunity to speak to her husband on the phone.
"They were long days," Hossa told the Tribune on Sunday as he recalled the aftermath of his concussion suffered when he was hit illegally by the Coyotes' Raffi Torres during Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinals April 17. "I was so tired. I'd wake up and fall asleep again. All of a sudden I'd realize it was nighttime and I wasn't hungry because I'd feel sick.
"I'd try to open the window and the light hits you and you realize it's not good. The first three days were the worst days, but slowly it would become a little bit better and better."
It was then Hossa, 33, began thinking of the future. Not just about returning to the ice, but also the long-term effects of the severe concussion brought upon by the hit that ended his season and resulted in a 21-game suspension for Torres.
