This week marks the 40th anniversary of the famed Summit Series between the Soviet Hockey Team and Team Canada. What started out as an exhibition series, quickly turned into one of the fiercest ice battles ever.
After losing Game 1 to the Russians, Chicago Blackhawk goaltender, Tony Esposito was put between the pipes to replace Ken Dryden in Game 2. All Tony "O" did, was keep the Soviets from scoring and put Team Canada right back into it.
This September 28th, will be 40 years to the day that Toronto Maple Leave winger, Paul Henderson scored the most famous goal in the history of Canada, as he beat the great Tretiak on a rebound and won Game 8 for Team Canada; which won them the series: 4-3-1
Was it 40 years ago? It seemed just like yesterday.
